Bound By Time by A.D. Trosper

Today I am reviewing Bound By Time by A.D. Trosper.

BOUND

Blurb:  Can he save her this time or are they bound to be separated for eternity…

Isobel Moore is looking forward to spending her summer break alone while her parents are overseas. Until she returns from college to find her home isn’t quite the welcoming place it used to be. The stained glass window her parents installed is more than just a beautiful piece of history; something sinister is sealed within the colored glass.

When Isobel meets her new neighbor, Damien DeLuca, she discovers the gorgeous and mysterious stranger has plenty of his own secrets. Including the knowledge of what’s happening in her home.

As her world spins out of control, she unravels a past that not only tests her limits, but also everything she thought she knew. The darkness within the window yearns to be free and it will do anything to escape—including killing Isobel.

My Review: I was thrilled to see a new book by this author. Granted it is in a different genre than her other novels. I was not disappointed however as her excellent writing skill crosses the genres well. This paranormal romance gives  you everything you could want. The romance part is well done and the twist on the paranormal is original. I absolutely love the detail of this book. Everything is researched so well. I love a book that get me on the internet to see if the facts are true only to find out that they are. Then I get into more research and actually learn something real from a fictional novel. This is a must read book I highly recommend it. It gets 5 stars.

Letters To Young Chong by Melanie Jo Moore

Today I am reviewing Letters To Young Chong by Melanie Jo Moore.

letters

Blurb: Booze, sex, and good times. What more could you ask for from a book? Letters To Young Chong is much like the pickled ginger on a sushi plate. As a reader, sometimes you need something spicy to cleanse your palate between complex books. That is what you will find here.

Letters To Young Chong is based on the friendship that developed between Melissa Moore and myself. No relation at all. We were often confused as the same person or considered twins. It was a rough start having to share my name. I was sure I would hate that name stealing girl for all of time. Thank goodness I finally got over that. I could not imagine life without her.

Through the beginning chapters, you will read how our friendship was built. In our rural area, we weren’t provided with the luxuries of entertainment big city kids have. We learned how to keep ourselves occupied with fast cars, booze and each other.

The friendship survives years of separation and abusive relationships. When we finally meet up again, we fall right back into step. It is obvious though that time has taken its toll and the situations we have lived through change our outlook on the world forever.

So grab a stiff drink and join the Young Chong experience! Jump on the crazy train that readers are describing as an addicting, rowdy story that will make you bust out laughing and cry your eyes out. If you survive this ride, you’ll definitely want to stay tuned for the sequel!

My Review: I at first found this book amusing as it went through some of the escapades of young adults as they struggled to find themselves and grow up. Then I found it rather annoying that instead of growing up and learning they seemed to continue to self destruct with out of control drinking. The drunk driving I think is one of things that soured me the most. The fact that this a memoir and not fiction makes it worse to me. I did finish the book hoping that the author redeemed herself a little with no luck. I will not read the sequel and can not really recommend this book. Maybe if the drinking wasn’t so bad the editing would be better I give this book 2 stars.

Capitol Hell by Alicia M. Long and Jayne J. Jones

Today I am reviewing Capitol Hell by Alicia M. Long and Jayne J. Jones.

PINK

Blurb: When recent college graduate Allison Amundson, a small town girl from South Dakota, lands the highly sought-after job of scheduler to the newly-elected and rising star of the United States Senate, Senator Anders McDermott III, she initially thinks she is on the fast track to success. However, she quickly learns that crazy co-workers, a high maintenance boss, the boss’s over-the-top demanding family, and an unexpected Presidential bid make Capitol Hill seem even more dysfunctional than it looks on TV. In fact, it is Capitol Hell.

This off-beat, hilarious novel captures what it is like to work in the United States Senate. Find out how it feels to be a hot young staffer on Capitol Hill when you step into Allison’s hot pink high heels, and catch a glimpse of what life is really like ”inside the beltway.

My Review: This book will keep you laughing and shaking your head at the antics behind the scenes of a U.S. Senator, his staff and his family. There are just too many things intertwined to even try to tell in a review. If you need a good laugh this a must read. On the sad side from some of the headlines we read today this isn’t really a fiction book. I give this 5 stars.

Failing Test by J.M. Pierce

Today I am reviewing Failing Test by J.M. Pierce.

TEST

Blurb: You know him, but you can’t remember his name. He is the one that is always there, in the background, all but invisible to those roaming the hallways. What if he had a secret? What if it was a secret that even he didn’t know?

Test Davis has always been a blur to those around him. He’s a shadow like a million other kids–not smart enough for the academic team, not beast enough for the football team, not extroverted enough for the drama crowd. In all things Test is just…not, which is why no one ever notices him.

But what happens when someone does notice him– Nicole Paxton, a cheerleader, no less? What happens on the night that Test finds out there’s nothing average about him and that a powerful gift has been hidden within, secretly waiting to be set free and alter his life forever? The question is, will that power save him and those he loves or tear them apart?

My Review: This is pretty good young adult paranormal read. I like the concept of the shy boy with the powers. Maybe a little cliche but still enough new to keep it original. Some of the conversations were a little stilted and I never felt real involved with the characters emotions. However I am intrigued enough to want to read the next book. There were lots of editing mistakes. I give this 3 stars.

Love And The Punk Rock Girl by K.H. Alynn

Today I am reviewing Love And The Punk Rock Girl by K.H. Alynn.

punk

Blurb: 17-year-old Rudi Weiss is a tough girl stuck in the tougher city of Irvington, NJ at the dawn of the eighties–with her life centered around alienation, drugs, and punk rock. Though this changes when she’s caught selling pot and given a choice: either spend the rest of her childhood in juvenile detention or live with an ex-Marine and his family in the nearby affluent suburb of Maplewood.

There at the local high school, the wild and free-thinking Rudi disrupts the entire established order–and she especially disrupts Tommy Goodwin, a popular prep star who’s seemingly her opposite. But underneath their veneers, they are much the same–two lost souls desperately in search of something, and when they find it, it explodes everything around them.

Something that’s only exasperated when Rudi’s past catches up with them–along with the intolerance of the era, in this magical and bittersweet tale of unexpected love.

My Review: I have had this in my TBR pile for far too long. I kept being put off I think by the cover. Glad to see it has been updated. At first I was a little put off by the writing style and quite a few editing errors. Soon though I was captivated by the story and the depth of the characters. By the time I got to the end none of the other mattered. All I can say is this story is beautiful. Even though the ending is heart wrenching I went to sleep with a smile on my face from this story. Kudos to the author.  If you want to read a great love story that will pull every heart string you have I recommend this one. To be fair to my other submissions I will mark it down for the editing errors so it gets 4.5 stars.
